The Prowlers, Popular New Singing Group
by Jack Cullen
Vancouver Sun Dec. 20, 1957
Another group of local entertainers have made the wax scene with the current release on Aragon records of "The Prowlers."
Most of the crew attended John Oliver high school and it is here that they first broke the unit in at various school functions.
Originally most of their material was in the rock and roll idiom but in recent times they have broadened their musical tastes to include other tempos.
Nineteen-year-old Les Vogt is the lead vocal with the Prowlers and the four others are Stretch and Bob Tillyer, Carl Ries and Fred Bennett.

RED'S RECORD RACK
Ricky's Riding
Highway of Hits

by Red Robinson
Vancouver Sun Dec. 20, 1957

Three outstanding newcomers headed the popularity polls this year.
They are Johnny Mathis, Jimmy Rodgers and Ricky Nelson.
Ricky is currently riding up the highway of hits.  He has the fifth most popular and best selling album in North America called "Ricky."
He has the number 18 song on the survey from cash box, "Be Bop Baby."  He also has the two pick songs of the week in both trade magazines:  One side is called "Stood Up" with the flip "Waiting in School" already showing on the charts in Los Angeles and three other major American cities.
This looks like just the beginning.  Just toward the end of this year Ozzie Nelson took Ricky over to Imperial records from Verve and signed one of the biggest contracts in years.
He has been featured with Lew Chudd's Imperial label for just over three months now and has all the above-mentioned awards and hit songs.
He's a son of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson from TV and his songs are selling so well that Elvis will have competition in 1958.
