Rock 'n Roll Star
Is Preacher Now

BY RED ROBINSON
Vancouver Sun: Feb. 7/58
The hottest name in rock 'n roll next to Elvis Presley was Ricardo Wayne  Penniman, song writer, singer and now preacher of the gospel.
Little Richard as he was known, wrote many of the big rock 'n roll numbers like Tutti Frutti and Rip It Up, to name a few.  He retired from show business two months ago and walked into religion.
The last song he ever recorded was just released this week.  It is "Good Golly Miss Molly."
The release of this record is also the release of Little Richard from show business.

The recording company "Specialty Records," was going to make a court case out of his exit because he had promised to continue with his road show but he entered religion before he had said he had intended to and the road show was cancelled.
However, the road manager has booked his band all over the States and Canada to travel with the big show of stars for 1958.  This show, by the way, could be here sometime in March.
Most Little Richard fan clubs throughout North America have folded up.  But my bet is that the record company is still counting the folding stuff from his profits made while in show business.
He once remarked that during the height of his career he sometimes would make as much as $11,000 a day in engagements and recordings.

Artists coming soon to this coast are Rick Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Helms, Bill Justis, The Four Preps, the Silhouettes.
Seattle bookers have set the dates tentatively and all that is needed now are the signatures on the contracts.
As mentioned before in this column music today is big business and to help the slipping picture business more and more emphasis is being put on sound track music and themes from shows.
The new show, The Long Hot Summer, has used Jimmy Rodgers on the sound track and it is one of the best-selling records today.
The theme for the forthcoming movie by Columbia, The Bridge Over the River Kwai is big on the national charts.
Danny and the Juniors who recorded At the Hop, have just been signed to the Columbia film "Let's Rock."  The film, with Julius la Rosa and Phyllis Newman in the leads, went into production in the Bronx last week.
Other top stars signed have been Della Reese, Roy Hamilton, Paul Anka from Canada and many more top music makers.
