   About 400 competitors and officials of the Teen Town Northwest Square Dance Festival, Canada's biggest "hoedown" for teenagers, will be guests at the big British Columbia International Trade Fair on festival day, Saturday, May 3.
   Both the B.C. government-sponsored Trade Fair and the festival will make use of Exhibition Park facilities on the same day.
   The trade fair runs May 1 to 10 and the festival goes May 3 in PNE Gardens Building.
   Fair manager Bruce Barnett has extended an invitation to all festival competitors, team coaches and officials to attend the industrial and business exhibition as guests of the management.
   To assist the festival committee in meeting the increased costs involved in presenting this square dance extravaganza for the first time in Vancouver, the adult-spectator admission price has been upped from 75 cents to $1,  Admission for teenagers and pre-Teens remains the same, 50 and 25 cents respectively.  Charge for the evening dance is unchanged at 50 cents.

   Doin' The Teen Towns -- Tonight Lynn Valley Teen Town will hold its regular record dance, 8:30 p.m., in the Community Hall, Mountain Highway and Frederick Road . . .  This newly-organized TT has already formed two special activity groups:  camera club and a fashion models club for girls . . . Alberni District Teen Town welcomed members of the local high school basketball team and visiting players from Vancouver's King Edward High at the recent "after-the-game" dance.  Mr. and Mrs. T. Pidcock, assistant adult advisors, supervised the dance . . . Application for affiliation with the B.C. Teen Town Movement has been received from the newly organized Bella Coola Teen Town.

Calypso Songs Die;
Belafonte Survives

By RED ROBINSON
(Vancouver Sun Mar. 7, 1958)

   Calypso died a fast death and some people thought that this would inevitably mean the end of Harry Belafonte.
   Let's face it, Harry is one of the greatest entertainers alive.  Belafonte was recording old folk songs such as "Matilda" when they were only fair sellers.
   Now Harry has recognized the new Dixie trend and has recorded one of the oldest and greatest of all Dixie numbers "When the Saints Go Marching In."
   This song is being bought up by the public as if it was a limited item.  Some of the record stores can't even get it.  Harry is a great entertainer but he is also a smart business man.  While the public marches into the record stores Harry marches to the bank.
   Recently the London office of Capitol Records recorded the voice of a young lad twelve years ol called "Laurie London."  The song is an old spiritual that opera singer Marian Anderson has been singing for years.  "He's got the whole world in his hands."  The record is sensational.
   Academy award time is rolling around again and of course songs win oscars as well as actors and films . . .  here are the songs nominated and the pictures they are from"  All the Way, Frank Sinatra, from the "Joker is Wild";   An Affair to Remember, from the film of the same name.  April Love, Pat Boone, from "April Love";  Tammy, Debbie Reynolds, from "Tammy and the Bachelor";  Wild Is the Wind, Johnny Mathis, from "Wild Is the Wind".
