Songs
of Hank
Williams Hits Long After His Death
By
RED ROBINSON (Vancouver
Sun April 11, 1958)
The great
Hank Williams, one of the real
song-writing geniuses of our
times, died in the early
fifties but his music lives
on.
Proof of this are
the hits he had after his
death. "Cold, Cold
Heart," "Your Cheating Heart,"
"Half As Much," and others.
This year two
Hank Williams songs that never
went in the pop field but were
big hits in the country field
are in the pop
spotlight. One of these
is "I Can't Help It," newly
recorded by Margaret Whiting.
This release is
beautiful and sincere.
It will probably ride to the
top of the hit elevator.
Rick Nelson has
recorded another Williams
song. "My Bucket's Got a
Hole in It." It's one of
the biggest hits
this week across the land.
In conjunction with the
success of the Nelson hit, MGM
has re-released the original
Williams' version. It's
real big on the country
survey. This is proof
that when something is great
it will live on.
Williams' songs have that
something extra
special--something that spells
hit with a capital H.

Spanish
and French songs are sprinkled
lightly throughout your hit
parade this week. Two of
the biggest songs are "Chanson
D'Amour," with Art and Dotty
Todd, and "Corrido Rock." with
Bill [ed. actually Jim]
Balcolm.
Both of these
songs are flavored with the
continental touch. Watch
for more songs along these
lines.
The world is
being explored through music
and it's only natural that
some of the old standard songs
from foreign lands should get
back on the charts.
In New York the
disc jockeys are predicting
more Italian songs for the
charts. Remember some of
them? "That's Amore" and
"Anna." We can all do
with variety and when it's
musical it's even nicer.

The
hits
come
these
days from unknown
newcomers. This makes it
difficult to predict new hit
material. When someone
with a name like Ersel Hickey
hits the music scene, you
think to yourself, "with a
name like that, where can he
go?" But Ersel Hickey
has one of the top songs out
right now called "Bluebirds
Over the Mountain." You
can't judge a book by its
cover, is the old saying, and
I guess it's true too of
record artists and their
names."
