Honest
Pat Boone Makes
Fine Album
Universal
Appeal in Records
Of Classical Popular Tunes
By RED ROBINSON
Vancouver Sun Aug.
15, 1958
|
When Randy Wood
signed Pat Boone
to his label in
1955 he signed his
name on the
contract with Pat
and both have made
enough money to
retire on today.
Randy
has said quite
often that without
Pat Boone his Dot
records couldn't
have made it to
the top of all the
record companies.
UNIVERSAL QUALITY
Pat
has a quality that
appeals to
teenagers as well
as their
parents. His
success in the
movie and on TV
equals his record
success. He
is as relaxed as
Perry Como yet
sparkles as
himself with his
own approach to a
situation on stage
or on disc.
His
current Dot album
is one of the
biggest and most
popular albums to
be released in a
long long
time. The
album is called
"Star Dust" and is
liberally
sprinkled with
many star-studded
songs . . . songs
like "Deep
Purple," "The St.
Louis Blues" and
"Stardust" itself
make this one of
the most
listenable albums
in ages.
Pat's
song treatment is
honest and sincere
and is conveyed to
the listeners with
each song he
delivers on this
package.
His
current hits, "If
Dreams Come True"
and "That's How
Much I Love You"
are definite
indications of his
mass acceptance.
The
success of Pat
Boone's private
life and show
business life is
hard to believe,
but as I stated
earlier, honest.
Listen to this new
album when you get
an opportunity and
you'll see what I
mean.
ARTIST SWITCHES
This
has been a month
of artist
switches, with
some of the top
stars switching
labels. It
was announced this
week that Renato
Carosone, who had
a million-seller
in "Torrero," will
switch from
Capitol to
Columbia. It
looks as if
Columbia is
revamping for the
big fall season
ahead. Some
of their new stars
include Les Paul
and Mary Ford,
Carl Perkins,
Johnny Cash, and
now Renato
Carosone.

TOP
SONG
The top song
on the world
hit parade,
Domenico
Modugno's
"Volare" is
not available
in Canada.
This week, Red
Roberts of
Decca Records
in Montreal,
disclosed that
this record
will not be
available in
Canada on
Decca Records
as it is in
the U.S.
because of
international
contracts.
If
you want a
copy of
"Volare" you
will have to
settle for one
of the many
other top
versions which
number 15.
A
three-year-old
disc is
finally on the
hit
parade.
"It's Only
Make Believe"
with Conway
Twitty was
released just
about three
years ago and
now makes it
on to the
charts because
of MGM's
foresight.
MGM realized
that this type
of song is
selling now so
they released
it.
Watch it
climb.
Girls fight to
gain a few
steps on the
ladder of
success.
It has always
been a big
fight for gals
in the hit
parade ring.
WOMEN SUCCEED
This week it's
evident that
they are
winning a few
rounds over
their male
competition.
Doris Day is
the highest
rater with her
hit song of
"Everybody
Loves a
Lover."
Her
song-sisters
are making
strong bids
too.
Peggy Lee is
moving up with
"Fever."
Connie Francis
is making the
charts with
"Stupid Cupid"
and Patti Page
is in there
with a left
and right on a
big hit for
the female
queen of the
disceries
[sic] with her
song "Left
Right Out of
Your Heart."
