Here at Weekend
Ritchie Valens to Appear at
Theatre and Cloverdale Dance
By RED ROBINSON
(Vancouver Sun Nov. 21, 1958)
This week in the Vancouver area we will be privileged to hear and see one of today's top talents in show business.
He's Ritchie Valens, a young ballad singer in his early twenties who hails from the San Fernando Valley in California.
His current smash hit in Vancouver and throughout the nation, "Come On Let's Go," keeps climbing every week
Ritchie has five engagements to attend this weekend. On Friday night he'll be at the Holiday Inn in Burlington, Wash: Saturday he'll be at the International Cinema Theatre for two theatre parties, one at 12 noon and the second at 2:30.
That night Ritchie will appear on a stage show at a dance at Cloverdale Community Centre. He will also be on Ray Briem's Seattle Bandstand show via taped television recording.
Just this week Ritchie's new song "Donna," which he wrote, is appearing on the national survey charts.
Come On Let's Go
by Ritchie Valens
Much like young Robin Luke who appeared in Vancouver a few months back, Ritchie is responsible for composing his own songs. His double-barrelled talent will be displayed on all four shows with the Canadian Bandstand show which features young Jimmy Morrison who is really making a name for himself in Canada with records and TV appearances.
Also on the show will be the northwest's greatest guitar player Jerry Fiander, the fabulous Four Quarters and the hottest band property in Canada, the sensational Stripes.
* Remember Christmas 1955-56. These were years when novelty Christmas songs were big songs like "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," "Christmas Dragnet" with Stan Freburg, and Eartha Kitts' unforgettable "Santa Baby."
This year will probably be one of the biggest novelty seasons on record. Stan Freburg's new "Green Christmas" should be one of the most outstanding offerings.
