Good Rockin' Tonight - Pat Boone
'Good Rocking' Hit Back on Charts
Pat Boone's Disking of 1955
Success on Way to Top Again
By RED ROBINSON
(Vancouver Sun Jan. 16, 1958)
It's sort of a coincidence as I sit here with the black print flying from the typewriter.
When I started out with my own show on CJOR in 1955, thanks to two wonderful gentlemen, Al Jordan and Vic Waters, the song that started my show really moving was "Good Rocking Tonight," recorded and pressed at that time by Elvis Presley on RCA Victor records.
This was the beginning for me in radio. This tune stands out in my mind.
I can still remember Vic tearing out his hair and Knox Coupland and Ernie Henn of RCA Victor repeating this action at the Victor plant when Mr. Presley caused the phone to ring off the hook for straight two hours.
Pat Boone unfolds his talents and tosses out in true rock fashion this oldie that rocked the Hit Parade in 1955.
Pat is on his way to the top of the hit ladder without much effort.
His release of this song is timely and the fact that 100,000 of these were sold in the United States in two weeks makes it a sure bet that Boone's disking of this old rock number will make it all the way to the top.
Pat hasn't recorded a real rock number since 1956 when he recorded "Why, Baby Why." He didn't like to be referred to as a rock-and-roll artist. He leaned towards ballads like "Love Letters in the Sand," "April Love" and "Bernadine."
Pat Boone fans decided that Pat should rock it up with a solid sound and because it was time for such a tune he waxed it and the results are fabulous.

Conway Twitty, voted by Cash Box magazine as the most popular male vocalist of 1958, received his first gold record from MGM Records this week for one million sales of "It's Only Make Believe."
Considering Mr. Twitty had only one release in the past year it's a pretty outstanding effort on his part to land the Cash Box award and also the gold record.
This is the last of Red Robinson's Teen Canteen surveys. Red departs CKWX for KGW in Portland, Oregon.
